Frequently Asked Questions:

GENERAL REPLACEMENT QUESTIONS:

Q: How do I know which light cover or diffuser I need?

A: Measure the length, width, depth, and mounting style of your existing cover, then match those dimensions to the listing.

Q: Do these covers fit discontinued fluorescent fixtures?

A: Yes, Fluorolite manufactures replacement lenses for many discontinued commercial fixtures using existing and custom tooling.

Q: Are all light covers interchangeable?

A: No. Light covers vary by fixture type, mounting method, and size. Always match measurements and fixture style.

Q: What is the difference between a light cover and a light diffuser?

A: A light cover protects the fixture, while a diffuser spreads light evenly and reduces glare. Many products combine both functions.

Q: Are replacement light covers universal?

A: No. Replacement covers are fixture-specific, especially for wraparound, vapor-tight, and outdoor fixtures.

MEASUREMENT & FIT

Q: How do I measure a fluorescent or LED light cover correctly?

A: Measure overall length, width, depth, and the distance between mounting hooks or snap points.

Q: What does “between the hooks” measurement mean?

A: It is the inside distance between mounting hooks, critical for wraparound light cover fit.

Q: What if my light fixture is discontinued?

A: Many replacement covers are still available for discontinued fixtures using existing or custom mold we have, if we were providing directly from lighting manufacture and we can’t replicate it. We will let you know.

Q: What if my exact size isn’t listed?

A: We have over 20,000+ different items. We can’t put all of them on the website. Fill up the form “Get A Quote” and we will let you know what you need.

FLUORESCENT vs LED RETROFIT QUESTIONS

Q: Can I use my existing light cover when converting to LED?

A: Yes. Most fluorescent light covers are compatible with LED retrofit kits if dimensions remain unchanged.

Q: Do LED fixtures require different diffusers?

A: Not always. Many LED fixtures reuse fluorescent-style lenses, but flat panel LEDs use specific diffusers.

Q: Will a prismatic diffuser reduce LED glare?

A: Yes. Prismatic diffusers spread LED light evenly and minimize harsh brightness.

MATERIAL & PERFORMANCE QUESTIONS

Q: What is the best material for replacement light covers?

A: Acrylic offers high light transmission, while polycarbonate provides superior impact resistance.

Q: Will light covers turn yellow over time?

A: Polycarbonate can turn yellow over time but our UV-stabilized acrylic and prismatic lens are significantly better than standard plastics and take 10+ year to turn yellow (depending on the environment and usage).

Q: Are shatterproof light covers available?

A: Yes. Polycarbonate lenses are impact-resistant and ideal for schools, warehouses, and public spaces.

Q: Do light diffusers affect brightness?

A: Yes. Clear diffusers maximize output, while frosted or prismatic options soften light and reduce glare.
